The Sallandse Heuvelrug & Twents Reggedal, a nature reserve with a rich history and a unique landscape. This National Park belongs to a family of National Parks in the Netherlands and was formed by a large ice mass that pushed the ground aside thousands of years ago. This created no fewer than 16 hills, which now provide breathtaking views. The charming river Regge meanders between these hills, and the many moraines, boulders and burial mounds are reminders of the traces of our ancestors. Even the names of the fields refer to old family names, which makes this landscape extra meaningful.
Walking and cycling through hills and heathland
The Sallandse Heuvelrug offers an extensive network of hiking and cycling routes. The variation in elevation makes it one of the most special nature reserves in the Netherlands. In August and September, the heath turns a beautiful purple, a unique phenomenon that makes this area extra special. Bird lovers can spot the rare black grouse here, while deer and foxes regularly roam the landscape.
Mountain biking through the rolling landscape
For mountain bikers, the Sallandse Heuvelrug is a true paradise. The hills offer challenging routes with height differences that you will hardly find anywhere else in the Netherlands. Narrow paths meander through the forests and over the heath, with tough climbs and fast descents that ensure an unforgettable ride. Whether you are a novice mountain biker or an experienced rider, there is a suitable route for every level.
