Warkense Mill

The Warkense Mill: a historic piece of craftsmanship

The mill with its rotating wings is visible from our site.

De Warkense Mill is a characteristic corn mill from 1878, located in the countryside of Warnsveld. This belt mill was built to replace an older standard mill and played an important role in local grain processing for many years. Thanks to its elevated position on a mill hill (belt), the sails optimally catch the wind, which allowed the grinding of grain to take place efficiently. The mill is still in operation and is kept turning by volunteer millers.

Visitors can view the mill from the inside on certain days and see how the milling process works. Volunteer millers passionately tell about the history and craftsmanship involved in milling grain.

Bakery Museum: From Grain to Bread

The Warkense Mill also includes a Bakery Museum, where the history of the baker's craft comes to life. Here you can see how the milled grain from the mill is processed into bread and pastries. Visitors can attend demonstrations, where bakers show how bread was made in the past without modern machines.

For children and adults there are regular workshops where you can knead dough and bake a roll yourself. Freshly baked treats and flour from the mill are available in the museum shop, so that you can continue to enjoy this craft at home.
